Great cooking website for kids

Posted by Stacie | May 1, 2007 .

Many of us have our favorite cooking show, but how many of them are tailored towards helping our kids learn how to cook? I know that it’s supposed to be the parent’s job to teach cooking to the children, but maybe you’re not the best cook in the world. Maybe you aren’t really sure yourself how to make certain foods properly. So, where do you turn for advice?

Click over to Spatulatta’s website for some help! This website shows short videos on how to prepare simple meals, scramble an egg, and wash your hands, just to name a few. And the best part is that the hosts are kids (ages 9 and 11 years)!

They have a variety of recipes, including:
- a few for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, other major holidays
- snacks
- vegan/vegetarian items
- and fun foods (who wouldn’t want to eat a sandwich called “cutie cukes’?).

Most recipes require common foods found in your home but some do require a trip to the grocery store. As well, they teach kids how to make place-cards for a table. Click on the “fun” page and you can play a “utensil concentration” game that is similar to your old-fashioned memory game. What’s great about this game is that it helps kids (and me too!) learn about different kitchen utensils.

There’s also a section for parents (mostly has links to other websites). One drawback to the recipes on this site is that if you do not have quicktime movie player, you must install it before you can watch any videos (so it would be nice if they could have a photo of the food item on their website). As well, the recipes do not tell you how long it will take to prepare, nor the nutrition information for each food item.

Overall, though, it’s a great website, and a great resource for kids and parents alike. Check it out!
