How to enjoy ice cream
One of my favorite traditions in the summer is ice cream on a hot day. As it’s been very hot outside almost daily for the past several weeks, I have wanted ice cream almost daily too.
One way for me to enjoy ice cream is to buy light ice cream (my favorite is “slow churned“) and small ice cream cones at the grocery store. Every day, I have eaten a one-scoop ice cream cone after dinner. Because I am limited to how much ice cream I can fit on my cone, I am able to control my portions. However, give me a bowl and I can fill it quite full!
I’ve estimated my ice cream cone to be about 160-180 calories:
Light ice cream = ~110 – 140 calories/serving
Servings per container = 14
Number of servings I got out of the container = 12 – 14
Calories per cake cone = 20 calories/cone
Overall calorie intake = 160 – 180 calories
If you want to decrease your calories even further, choose a fat free or lighter ice cream or choose sherbet.
Therefore, if you are hungry for ice cream, instead of buying regular ice cream, with syrup, sprinkles, nuts, and whipped cream, buy the light ice cream and put it in a cone! It’s a sweet summer treat you can feel good about!
