Review: Dove Sugar Free Chocolates
While at the Food and Nutrition conference, I was able to sample lots of goodies. Below is one of the samples that I tried. I also asked my husband to try this item with me (he’s not a dietitian, so he has a different outlook on food).
Product tested:
“Sugar Free Dove” chocolate miniatures, “rich dark chocolate with chocolate creme”.
Initial thoughts:
It looked appealing and smelled fruity. The chocolate bar had a creamy chocolate outside, yet the filling had a raspberry taste (although it was labeled chocolate creme). I am not sure if they mislabeled the samples or if they used a fruit puree to help make the bar contain less calories.
For those who are diabetic, it is important to note that although this product is sugar free, it still contains carbohydrate (in the form of sugar alcohols). For every 2 grams of sugar alcohols, there is 1 gram of “total carbohydrate” that your body sees. Therefore, if you had 5 sugar free dove miniatures (which is a serving size according to Dove), you will have about 13 grams of carbs (or 1 Carbohydrate Choice). See the American Diabetes Association for more information on sugar alcohols.
Overall rating:
On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being “gross, take it off the market” to 10 being “yum! Can I get stock in this company?”), both my husband and I rated it a 5 of 10. He did not like the consistency, I did not like the fruit flavor. It threw me off.
Let me know if you’ve sampled this product and what you think of it!

Did you try the mint or double chocolate. I like them as an alternative to the real stuff. I think its even hard to tell the difference
Sugar free chocolates and candies can be ordered online from stores all over the USA. Sugar free chocolates that are low in milk content can be good for those with diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, if taken in moderation.
